Sarah Johnson, AIA, NCARB, has been promoted to Principal Architect at Matt Fajkus Architecture. Johnson graduated from her Master of Architecture at UT in 2010 and has been a designer and project manager with Matt Fajkus Architecture since its inception, and she became licensed in 2016. Johnson believes that architecture is most powerful when it directly and simply responds to the needs of the client and the site. Her key projects include: Main Stay House, Control/Shift House, and Descendant House. She will take over the responsibilities of an Operations Principal while David Birt takes on the role of Delivery Principal at MF Architecture, and Matt Fajkus continues as the Principal who oversees the vision of the practice.
"Sarah started working with me with no contract for the first year or two. From the very beginning, the relationship was built on trust and a mutual belief in each other," says Matt Fajkus, "she has always gone over and beyond the tasks she was asked to do, managing things that were not her job, to point where clients, consultants, and new hires assumed she was the Office Manager, all while she was delivering projects as a project manager and design associate. Sarah is the embodiment of a 'Team Player.' She truly cares about the entire team before herself, and has consistently shown her willingness to make sacrifices for a larger good. Congratulations on this well-deserved promotion to Principal Architect, as the youngest female Principal of a medium or larger firm in Austin."
MF Architecture prides itself in the professional development of each team member, including diversity across gender and race, empowering and enabling young talented architects to reach their full potential. The practice made her promotion official by raising a flag in her honor at the Texas Capitol on January 10th, 2018.
